SECOND ANNUAL FEDERAL HISPANIC CAREER ADVANCEMENT SUMMIT
Change, Challenges, and Opportunities
"… Championing the advancement and development of Hispanic Americans in the federal workforce through training and education with a focus on building leadership skills, leading change, and achieving results! ..."
SEPTEMBER 17, 2009

The Second Annual Federal Hispanic Career Advancement Summit, like the first Summit, received an extraordinary response. The event, hosted in Arlington, VA, on September 17, 2009, counted with the participation of more than 800 Federal employees representing over 60 departments and agencies from virtually all components of the Federal government.
The summit, a product of the efforts of several Federal agencies, was designed to help attendees realize their professional aspirations and develop individual leadership competencies in order to prepare for senior positions in the Federal sector.
The Second Hispanic Summit offered four tracks of career and leadership workshops: Building Coalitions, Business Acumen, Fundamental Competencies, and Executive Coaching. The first two tracks mirrored two of the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM’s) Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) for the Senior Executive Service, and the Fundamental Competencies track included workshops related to multiple ECQs. The Executive Coaching workshops gave attendees more-direct access to Hispanics who are veterans of Federal leadership positions, and who, based on their experience, could provide insights about how to successfully navigate the Federal workplace.
Other features of the Summit included prominent Federal executive keynote speakers and networking activities. These activities, in addition to giving participants the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Hispanics in leadership positions, also permitted attendees to connect with other Federal sector employees who are interested in advancing their own careers.
The widespread endorsement of the Summit by Federal departments and agencies reflected the Federal Government's commitment to enhancing its career development initiatives. In addition, the Summit was certified by OPM Director John Berry as qualifying as Federal training in compliance with 5 U.S.C. Chapter 41. (See OPM memorandum).
The success of the Summit can be attributed to everyone who participated in this historic event. The Summit Steering Committee wants to thank the participants, speakers, and workshop presenters, and especially the volunteers who worked hard to make the summit a reality. We could not have done it without your support and assistance.
We look forward to seeing all of you in 2010 for the Third Annual Federal Hispanic Career Advancement Summit!
